Every summer Orange Community of Christ hosts a week-long, free Peace Camp for kids in our community. We use the principles of The Children's Peace Pavilion, an experiential Peace Museum at Community of Christ's headquarters in Independence, MO. One of Community of Christ's Mission Initiatives is Pursue Peace on Earth, making this camp a natural extension of our identity as a movement. Primary concepts include Peace for Me, Peace for Us, Peace for Everyone, and Peace for the Planet. We teach and experience peace-making through games, music, crafts, lessons, and interactive activities.
This year, our theme is "Story." We will explore the value of sharing our stories with each other, knowing more about the stories of different people and cultures around the world, and discover what it looks like to create a new story of peace that can transform the world.
Our daily schedule is as follows:
6:00— 6:30: Theme/Music Class
8:00: Parents/guardians pick-up
On Friday night at 6:00, we will have a Peace Camp dinner that is free to the community where we will play a video that shares what we learned and explored during the week, and enjoy having food around the table with our neighbors. We hope that you and your family can join us in community for this experience!
We also host a bi-monthly Peace Club. We meet every other month on the first Saturday, and will launch into Peace Club again this fall. Following the model of Peace Camp, this experience is free and include games, music, crafts, snacks, and interactive learning activities that model peace-making in our neighborhoods and communities.
